Programme Management is so much more than multi-project management, although co-ordination between projects is clearly one of the main aspects. OWL’s approach is to take an holistic view, and so a good programme manager will perform a variety of other roles – adviser, counsellor and overseer – such that interdependencies of deliverables, conflicts, gaps, overlaps, and synchronisation are all areas to be managed.
Each project team within an overall programme is often focused only on their own work. Typically this leaves the programme manager to ensure continuity and good inter-team communication so as to progress with least risk.
